DJ Neptune, a renowned Afrobeat disc jockey in Nigeria, has come out to state why musicians can’t seem to keep afloat financially after their fame. He didn’t mince words when giving his reasons.
The first reason he gave as to why artistes go broke is their lifestyle. The DJ said that artistes feel like their fame lasts forever so they fail to invest and dive deep into business opportunities aside from music.
Since they have this thought at the back of their mind, Nigerian musicians spend excessively without recourse to tomorrow. In his words:
“Artistes feel fame is forever; that’s why some of them, while they are at their peak, don’t save up their money, they don’t invest. I was with somebody the other day, and the person was saying these artistes that collect advance payments, they collect it and go and buy Benz. Is that not your future you are driving?”

DJ Neptune has first-hand experience with this as he’s always around top artistes, featuring them in his new songs and hanging out together. However, he’ll never stop telling them that fame is fleeting and that the funds they have now should be channeled into profitable business ventures.
“That’s why I tell some of my colleagues, while you are on top, invest your money. If it’s properties you want to do, just have a side income,” he said.
Neptune also made another shocking revelation, that only a few artistes have the grace to make their careers last more than five years. See what he said about this below:
“It is only a few of us that have the grace to be in the game for more than five, ten years. You are appealing to a certain age group, and if you don’t know how to tone down and switch, you might have missed your way.”
