Benin City witnessed a heavy downpour of rain that resulted in a storey building caving in and collapsing on UNIBEN students, effectively trapping them inside and snuffing life out of them slowly.
These students couldn’t do anything except scream and wait for help. Luckily, the UNIBEN Dean of Students Affairs organized a university rescue team that was immediately dispatched to rescue the survivors.
The area where this building collapsed heavily on the frail body of students was Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, an area famous for housing students. The unfortunate incident happened on a Saturday morning when the students experienced a rainfall that was like any other until the unexpected happened.
Little did they know that they would soon be smashed and trapped between huge piles of cement rubbles.

On getting to the scene, the rescue team was able to help some trapped students out of that traumatic pile of debris. They also noted that some of the students were heavily injured.
Thankfully, there was no loss of life at the scene. All those who experienced severe injury were promptly rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate treatment.
While almost everyone who was suspected to be inside the building was rescued, one particular student is yet to be found. A member of the rescue team revealed that this student kept calling from inside the building and was pleading for help.
In his words, “The rescue team is still searching for one victim who remains trapped inside the rubble. It was reported that the victim called from inside the building, pleading for help, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue him.”
This student is yet to be found and the university is yet to release an official statement addressing the collapse of a building on their students.
