“That was something I had to grieve for a while because it didn’t go the way I envisioned it,” Selena Gomez said as she shared for the first time the reason she would be unable to carry her own baby like other women.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the singer revealed a piece of herself that wasn’t available to the public before. It was a heart-wrenching revelation for both her and the interviewer as she uttered the words, “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”
This was such a painful statement to listen to, considering her love for kids and humanity. Selena went on to explain why it wouldn’t be possible to bear her own kids, as she said, “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”

The revelation dropped after she was asked about being a godmother to her cousin, Priscilla’s two kids – a role she relished and played perfectly well.
However, the musician is hopeful that there are other means available to start her family. She stated calmly, “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happened for everyone, but I’m in a much better place with that.”
She continued to share her thoughts, saying, “I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people.”
Selena Gomez wrapped it up in a positive light, stating how exciting her journey would look like, though it’ll be a little different.
“At the end of the day,” she said, “I don’t care, it’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
