Coming off two failed engagements in the past, Lady Gaga has always worried that she would end up alone due to the demands of fame and global success. She already prepared her mind for it as she inched towards 40, but surprisingly, Michael Polansky came along, swept her off her feet, and engaged her as his betrothed.
We’re sharing all the juicy details about their love story here because we know you’re itching to ask if it was love at first sight, or if it was arranged. Read on to find out.
Michael Polansky isn’t the first man Lady Gaga thought she would spend the rest of her life with. In 2015, she was engaged to actor, Taylor Kinney, but the engagement broke off after a year. The same thing happened when she got engaged to a talent agent, Christian Carino in 2018.
The “Die With a Smile” crooner was already entertaining worrying thoughts of dying alone in this cold, hard world, even with so many fans and admirers. She was disturbed until the very next year when Michael Polansky would cross paths with her, in what could be termed an arranged setting.
Both lovebirds met through Lady Gaga’s mother, Cynthia Germanotta, who ran a nonprofit organization called Born This Way Foundation. Lady Gaga’s mom interacted with Michael first and was wowed with the sincerity and charm that effortlessly touched those around him.
Without wasting time, she told her daughter, “I think I just met your husband,” to which Lady Gaga replied, “I’m not ready to meet my husband.” She later confessed in an interview with Vogue magazine that “I could never have imagined that my mom found the most perfect person for me.”
As fate would have it, a mutual friend invited Lady Gaga and her mom to his 40th birthday party. Lady Gaga wished she acted like she didn’t care, but her curiosity got the best of her as she finally muttered to her mom, “I wonder if Michael is going to be there.”
Not sure whether that was a statement or a question, Cynthia answered her daughter in the affirmative.
When the singer arrived at the birthday party, she kept asking about him, eager to see who this prince charming was that made such a good impression on her mom.

She asked around and no one seemed to know his whereabouts. A little depressed, she continued to move her body with the flow of the party, albeit absent-mindedly.
And then he appeared.
Right before her.
His wavy hair, lush eyebrows, and that kind smile. It was unmistakable. It had to be him. Michael Polansky. For a moment, she forgot her status in the crowd. This man carried his own aura with him, and it overwhelmed her in a way that made her subconscious surrender to him.
He walked even closer to her with a noble bearing and engaged her in a deep conversation that showed he wanted to know her beyond the Lady Gaga persona. According to her, “We talked for three hours and had the most amazing conversation.”
Michael Polansky, on his part, later revealed that he didn’t make it three steps into the party before someone told him that Lady Gaga was looking for him. In his words, “I didn’t know much about her and honestly wasn’t sure what to expect.”
But then, as the conversation progressed, he admitted that “I was struck immediately by her warmth and openness – she was so genuinely curious about what my life was like growing up in Minnesota.”
With a sheepish smile on her face, Lady Gaga said that they talked on the phone for a few weeks, went on their first date, and fell in love like it was the most natural thing in the world. All of that was going on before COVID-19 struck the world.
Michael was far away from his home at that time, so he temporarily lived in Lady Gaga’s Malibu house for well over a year until the quarantine was over.
They bonded so tightly during the pandemic. Five years after they first met, Michael took his woman to rock climbing and got her engaged the next day, April 2024.
