History was made last Friday as DJ Cuppy, the multi-talented daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, became the first Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The 32-year-old’s achievement took place at the 2024 UNGA Summit Youth Action Day, where she dazzled her audience with charisma as she highlighted the importance of empowering women and youth as the theme of the Summit implies: “The Summit of the Future – Youth Actions Day.”
In her keynote speech, she layed emphasis on the significance of engaging young adults in global conversations.
She advocated with passion for sound education, which aligns with UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 as she declares with conviction “I am representing a country called Nigeria,” which inspired attendees to join in the discussions about challenges that plague education.
But that is not all, a week ago, DJ Cuppy launched the “Cuppy Fund” at the New York University, which provides scholarship funds for African students studying abroad. Her initiative showcases her unrelenting dedication to uplifting the next generation and ensuring financial roadblocks don’t hinder anyone’s education.
As reported by The Vanguard, During the Submit, Cuppy hinted at future ambitions, suggesting she might become Nigeria’s first female president. UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed responded, “You told me you wanted to be Nigeria’s first female president, and what did I say? After me.”
Cuppy’s aspirations, alongside Amina’s encouragement, symbolize the growing momentum behind women’s leadership in Nigeria. Cuppy echoed Amina’s message, urging youth to raise their voices against global challenges.
